The Musical Expression Of Harry Crews’ Mind

Florida writer, Harry Crews, is a cracker. J.J. Grey of Mofro is a cracker.

Something dawned on me last night during Mofro’s performance at The Abbey Pub. Should an adaptation of any one of Crews’ brilliant books ever be brought to the big screen, I suggest the director consider the “front porch soul” of Mofro for the soundtrack. Mofro–a north Florida artistic creation, like Crews–slides easily from blues into funk back into soul and even gospel. Put another way, these rednecks sound black (which is a good thing).
